A Weekend in Taipei 台北

Taipei (pronounced Táiběi) is the capital of Taiwan and an absolutely beautiful city. Amidst the craziness that comes with any large city (think New York City) there are so many cool sites to see around every corner. Through the TUSA program, we were given amazing opportunities to get a glimpse of Taiwan's largest and most well-known city.

Taipei 101
~ Currently the world's 9th tallest building with a total of 101 floors and the world's tallest green building, Taipei 101 is one of Taiwan's most iconic landmarks. It also is home to the world's fastest passenger elevator in which we reached the 89th floor in 32 seconds flat!

Si-Shou Shan 四獸山 Public Forest
~ This is the very first hike I went on in Taiwan and it was absolutely beautiful. Taiwan's version of hiking includes many steps and man-made pathways but I definitely still got a workout! In the background of many of my pictures you can see Taipei 101. Near the top of the mountain there was also a breathtaking Buddhist temple.

Taipei National Palace Museum

One of Taipei's famous night markets

Chientan Overseas Youth Activity Center

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial
~ Chiang Kai-shek was the former President of the Republic of China and the leader of the Chinese Nationalist Party. He is credited by the Taiwanese and many others as being the founder of Taiwan (note: there is a lot of history between China and Taiwan so if you're interested you should definitely do more research!).

Taipei Metro Rapid Transit (MRT)
~ By far the cleanest public transportation I've ever been on

Maokong Gondola

The nicest rest-stop I've ever seen & other random pictures
